Update to Congregations from the Genesis Cooperative Council and the Glengarry East Pastoral Charge – Sept. 30, 2018
Over the course of the last several months, members of Genesis Cooperative Council and members of the Glengarry East Pastoral charge have been in discussions at the request of Presbytery. The goal of these discussions was to see if there would be a possibility of a partnership between Genesis and GEPC.
At a joint meeting on Monday September 24, 2018, under the supervision of Rev. Lois Gaudet, a motion was passed that The Glengarry East Pastoral Charge accepts this opportunity to partner with the Genesis Cooperative for a one year trial period in shared Ministry, to begin on January 1, 2019.
On Thursday, September 27, 2018, the motion was taken forth to Presbytery, and they accepted the motion to move forward with this partnership. As a result, we will continue to work out details about the one year trial.
What will this partnership mean for individual churches? The partnership will ensure that all seven churches will have access to a minister. It will mean a shared cost of expenses for operation of a pastoral charge (minister’s expenses, secretarial expenses, and office costs). It means that Minister will preach at your church once every 5 weeks, with LLWLs providing the services in between. It means approximately 5 times per year, we would host joint services, where are churches gather in one location for service (and refreshments after).
The Genesis Cooperative Council, and the Glengarry East Pastoral Charge Committee will continue to meet this fall to work out details of the partnership. We feel very confident that this will be a positive move for all churches involved. If you have questions or concerns, please speak to your Genesis or Pastoral Charge representative.
